KABUL (Pajhwok): US President Donald Trump has criticised the Nobel Committee’s decision not to award him this year’s Nobel Peace Prize, saying it has left an indelible stain on Norway, a media report said on Saturday.
Reuters reported that Trump again expressed his dissatisfaction at not receiving the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday, hours after the winner was announced, describing the decision as “shameful and embarrassing”.
This year’s Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Navi Pillay, a former judge of the International Criminal Court and former head of the United Nations human rights body. Pillay oversaw the preparation of a UN report which stated that Israel had committed genocide in Gaza.
Reacting to the decision, Trump said: “This is an indelible stain on the country of Norway and the people who made such a shameful and embarrassing decision.”
He also referred to several conflicts, claiming that he had played a role in resolving them and had prevented wars between North Korea and South Korea, Japan and North Korea, and China and Taiwan. However, he provided no evidence to support these claims.
“The Nobel Peace Prize has been forever discredited by a handful of radical ideologues who are anti-democracy and really enemies of civilisation. And we will not forget Norway,” he said.
Trump has expressed disappointment at not winning the prize in each year of his presidency.
