KABUL‘s ongoing political crisis, calling it an internal issue.
The warning comes a day after lawmakers appealed the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) for help over a special court that overturned the election results for a quarter of the seats in parliament.
“MPs who are unhappy with the court’s verdict should move to the court of appeals,” President Karzai’s chief spokesman said, adding that no foreign individual, country or organization should interfere in the process.
“It is a legal issue, not a political one, and should be resolved in line with the country’s laws,” Omar said.
On Sunday, angry lawmakers sent a letter to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon asking for the international community’s help overturning the court’s ruling.
But Omar warned that the dispute was an internal issue to be resolved by Afghan institutions. “Any outside interference will be regarded as a violation of Afghan law,” he said.
Ban’s special representative in Afghanistan, Staffan de Mistura, urged lawmakers not take any action, such as protests or sit-ins, which might provoke civil unrest.
