MAZAR-I-SHARIF (PAN): Balkh Governor Atta Mohammad Noor on Wednesday said a change in the government system should be brought in accordance with the country’s constitution.
Speaking at a ceremony marking security transition to Afghan security forces in Mazar-i-Sharif, the governor opposed the idea of Afghanistan‘s division by some political parties and individuals.
“Under Articles 149 and 150 of the constitution, a change in the government system is legitimate,” he said, adding the ongoing peace talks were meaningless without the Afghan government’s involvement.
On security transition, Noor said Afghan forces needed advanced training and a strong air force to make the exercise a success. He blamed the international community for failing to provide the support it had pledged for the first phase of the security handover.
The ceremony marking the switch was held at the Governor’s House and attended by Security Transition Commission Chairman Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai, Governor Atta Muhammad Noor, the German ambassador to Afghanistan and a number of consuls-general of different countries.
