KANDAHAR CITY/CHARIKAR): A district police chief was in the southern province of Kandahar, while a local police commander was killed in central Parwan province shot dead on Saturday, officials said.
Motorcyclists opened fire on the vehicle of the district police chief, Rahmatullah, on his way the o office in the 15th police district of Kandahar City, the governor’s spokesman, Javed Faisal, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The attackers managed to flee the area, but police launched a manhunt for the killers, he said. A Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, claimed responsibility for the killing.
Separately, a local police commander and a civilian were killed and five other policemen injured in separate bomb blasts in the Jabalus Saraj district of Parwan province, the administrative head of the town said.
Samandar Sikandari said local police commander Janat Gul was travelling to Shinwari district at 10am when his vehicle struck a roadside bomb in the Ashabi area, he added.
When Gul’s body was being shifted from the scene, another explosion occurred, killing a civilian and injuring five policemen.
A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, claimed that seven local policemen were killed and their vehicle destroyed in the blast.
