The U.S. Has Spent $25 Billion So Far in the War with Iran

KABUL( Pajhwok): According to reports, a senior Pentagon official told a U.S. congressional hearing that the United States has so far spent $25 billion in the war with Iran.

Reuters reported that during a congressional hearing held to defend Donald Trump’s request for an increase in the military budget, Adam Smith, a Democratic member of Congress’s defense committee, asked how much the United States had spent so far in the war with Iran.

According to the report, Pentagon financial comptroller Jules Hurst responded that around $25 billion had been spent, with most of the money going toward the provision of munitions.

Reuters wrote that Adam Smith later said: “I am glad you answered this question, because we have been asking it for a long time and no one had given us this figure.”

Jules Hurst did not provide further details about the spending and did not clarify whether the amount includes the estimated costs of rebuilding and repairing infrastructure at U.S. bases in the Middle East that were damaged in the war.

On the other hand, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth also told the hearing that the cost was justified in view of America’s objective of ensuring that Iran does not gain access to nuclear weapons.

It is worth noting that this is the first official figure presented by U.S. officials regarding the cost of the war with Iran.
