NATO helicopter makes forced landing in Logar

Logar deputy police chief Col. Raees Khan Sadqi told Pajhwok Afghan News the incident took place in the Babos area late on Monday night. The foreign troops conducted an operation on a house in the area, arresting three suspected militants, he said.

The troops were leaving the scene when their helicopter made an emergency landing, said Sadiq, who added the helicopter was damaged and a number of soldiers sustained injuries. But he had no figure for the injured crew. The troops later blew up the damaged aircraft with explosives.

A spokesman for the 302nd Thunder Military Corps Maj. Jan Agha also said some troops were wounded during the emergency landing, but he too was unable to provide the exact number of those wounded.

A resident of the area, Abdul Rahman, however, claimed the helicopter was shot down by insurgents.

In a statement, ISAF. There were no reported fatalities and the site of the incident is secure, the alliance said. “Initial reporting indicates that there was no enemy activity in the area at the time.”

The statement said ISAF was still in the process of assessing the circumstances to determine more facts.

The resident said the helicopter went down after being shot by the rebels. Later more NATO helicopters arrived at the scene and cordoned off the site, Rahman said.

The Taliban said their fighters shot the helicopter down, killing and injuring US soldiers onboard.
