CHARIKAR): A warehouse was gutted as a result of a rocket strike out side the US military base in the Bagram district of central Parwan province, officials said on Saturday.
A couple of rockets, fired by militants late on Friday night, triggered the blaze in a store in the Panj Qala area near the main military base, the Bagram police chief, Col. Zamaray Nasiri, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The 13-hour inferno was controlled by firefighters around 9:30am am, he said, adding the fire caused financial losses to the NATO-led forces.
Food items were burnt in the 1,000-square metres store, the Parwan police chief said. The rockets were fired from Qala Nasru area, added Brig. Gen. Mohammad Ikram Bekzad.
An hour before the incident, he said, unidentified callers warned workers of a foreign logistic company that they would attack the store if they were not paid cash. Police were trying to track down the assailants, Bekzad said.
A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, claimed responsibility for the attack, saying huge financial losses had been inflicted on foreign troops.
