KABUL’s population is projected to reach nearly 27.5 million in 2013, the Central Statistics Organisation (CSO) said on Tuesday.
The projection showed the country’s population had increased by 500,000 individuals, compared with 27 million in 2012, CSO head Abdul Rahman Ghafoori told a press conference.
Demographically speaking, 14.1 million people are male and nearly 13.4 million female. The population of Kuchis was estimated at 1.5 million, against 1.46 million in 2004, he added.
The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in also going to announce the estimated population of Afghanistan, including Afghan refugees in Pakistan and Iran.
This will add another 900,000 people to the CSO estimate, based on statistics from 2002 to 2005 and credible formulas for measuring mortality and migration rates.
