GHAZNI CITY (PAN in the capital of southern Ghazni province on Sunday afternoon, killing one worshipper and injuring five others, police said.
The grenade exploded at one of the mosque’s gates, said Ghulam Mohiuddin, Ghazni police chief. He said police had opened an investigation into the incident in Ghazni City, currently serving as the Asian Capital of Islamic Civilization.
However, Civil Hospital director Dr. Baz Mohammad Himmat said they had been delivered six injured people at the facility. The wounded included two elderly men and a child and three of them were in critical condition, he added.
Ghulam Farid, who runs a shop near the mosque, said the explosion took place when people were preparing to leave through the main gate after performing prayers.
He said the explosives concealed in a carton bag had been abandoned at the mosque’s gate. Confirming six people were injured in the blast, Farid said police later cordoned off the site.
No group has claimed responsibility so far for the explosion that comes two days before the nation will be celebrating the religious festival of Eidul Adha.
