KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Eight policemen, including their chief for the Spin Boldak district in southern Kandahar, have been killed in internal clash, a security source said on Friday.
Wishing not to be named, the source confided to Pajhwok Afghan News the overnight clash in the district, border the Chaman town of Pakistan‘s Balochistan province, was triggered by testy exchanges.
He said Khaista Khan, the district police chief, traded harsh words with another commander named Muhammad Raza on some issue that prompted the two sides to trade gunfire.
A high-level delegation, he said, had been sent to the area to investigate the incident. He added details would be released once the situation became clearer.
But Dawa Khan Minapal, the governor’s spokesman, said only three people were killed in the gun battle. Spin Boldak police chief, his son-in-law and brother of commander Mohammad Raza had been killed in the clash, he added.
Raza fled the scene after the bloody clash and police had started raids to arrest him, he concluded.
