Over 800kg of drugs destroyed in Ghor, 10 arrested in Jawzjan

KABUL (Pajhwok): More than 800 kilograms of narcotics, along with thousands of kilograms of precursor chemicals used in drug production, have been destroyed in western Ghor province.

Meanwhile, 10 people have been arrested on charges of gambling and drug dealing in northern Jawzjan province, officials said on Monday.

In a statement, Ghor police headquarters said more than 800kg of various narcotics, together with thousands of kilograms of precursor chemicals and other substances used in the manufacture of drugs, were burned and destroyed on Monday at a site away from residential areas in the presence of a designated committee.

It said the destroyed items included 33kg of opium, 4kg of hashish, 1.7kg of methamphetamine, 799.2kg of Type F narcotics, two litres of alcohol, 150kg of processed yama, 10,000kg of leafy yama, 600 litres of acetyl, 496 litres of acid, 4,405kg of lime and 12,900kg of caustic soda.

It added the narcotics and chemicals had been seized during counter-narcotics operations and were destroyed in accordance with relevant regulations to prevent misuse and protect public health.

Meanwhile, Jawzjan police spokesman Qari Abdul Sattar Halimi said eight people had been arrested while gambling, along with gambling equipment, during separate security operations in Aqcha district.

He added that two other individuals had also been arrested by the provincial counter-narcotics department on charges of selling narcotics and intoxicating tablets.

According to him, 155 grams of hashish and 320 intoxicating tablets were recovered from the two suspects.
