KABUL Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday acknowledged that terrorism posed a grave threat to his nuclear-capable country.
The Pakistani military had offered great sacrifices during the past 13 years and continued to make efforts to eliminate the scourge, he told the UN General Assembly.
“Pakistan wants to improve relations with its neighbours,” the premier said, adding Islamabad and Kabul were faced with identical challenges.
While denouncing all forms of terrorism, Sharif underlined the need for better relations between Pakistan and its immediate neighbours.
The Associated Press of Pakistan quoted him as saying 140 Pakistani military personnel had lost their lives in UN peacekeeping operations around the globe.
At a meeting with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, the security situation in the country and Pakistan’s relationship with neighbours Afghanistan came up for discussion.
