SHIBERGHAN(Pajhwok): Three education projects have been completed and put into operation at a cost of 136,700 US dollars in northern Jawzjan province, an official said on Saturday.
The projects included the construction of classrooms, boundary walls, provision of drinking water, installation of solar systems and other educational facilities.
Mawlawi Lal Jan Rashid, director of education, told Pajhwok that the projects were implemented in coordination with the education department and partner organisations to improve learning conditions and provide essential facilities for students and teachers.
According to him, at Jalalabad Girls’ High School in Shiberghan city, a six-classroom building along with two administrative rooms, a 10-room washroom block, a boundary wall, a drinking water well, water storage facilities and a solar power system were completed and inaugurated at a cost of more than $103,000.
He added that a 364-metre boundary wall at Afshar Khana Middle School in Shiberghan was also constructed and inaugurated at a cost of over $24,000.
In addition, a drinking water well, solar system and water storage facilities at Yangi Ariq Girls’ High School in Aqcha district were repaired and reactivated.
Rashid said around 2,000 students would benefit from the projects.
While appreciating the support of partner organisations, he said efforts to improve education would continue, noting that several schools in Jawzjan still face shortages of classrooms, boundary walls, desks, chairs and drinking water.
According to the education department, 377 schools are currently operating across Jawzjan province, of which 114 have no permanent buildings and continue to function in rented premises or under tents.
Meanwhile, Eng. Batur Artun, engineering officer at Help for Afghan Children, said the inauguration of these projects was an investment in a brighter future for Afghan children.
He said: “We remain committed to working with the Jawzjan Education Directorate to provide safe, standard and hopeful learning opportunities for the next generation.”
Local residents and school officials also welcomed the projects, describing them as an important step towards strengthening and developing education in Jawzjan province.
