Procurement Commission approves 21 projects worth 6.5bn afs

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Procurement Commission has approved 21 projects worth around 6.5 billion afghanis and endorsed necessary amendments to 12 other projects, officials said.

The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs said in a statement on Sunday that the commission held its regular meeting under the chairmanship of Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund.

The statement said 34 projects were presented for approval. Following a comprehensive review, 21 projects were approved and necessary amendments to 12 others were endorsed.

A committee was also tasked with negotiating the price of another project with the winning company and submitting its report to the Procurement Commission’s leadership, the statement said.

The approved and amended projects include the rehabilitation of the Managi hydropower dam in Kunar; the purchase of scanners for customs offices at airports in Kabul, Herat, Nangarhar, Balkh and Khost; the construction of the Cadre Hospital in Helmand; and general hospitals in Shighnan district of Badakhshan, Chak district of Maidan Wardak and Qala-e-Zal district of Kunduz.

Several electricity supply and distribution projects in different provinces are also among those approved or amended.

The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs said the projects would be funded by the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.
