Kabul meeting confers on Istanbul Conference agenda

KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghan officials and foreign diplomats on Thursday met in Kabul ahead of the fourth Foreign Ministerial Istanbul Conference to be held in China later this month.

The pre-conference meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) was attended by ambassadors from a number of countries. They discussed the agenda of the conference scheduled for Oct 30-31 in Beijing. 

Hikmat Khalil Karzai, President Ashraf Ghani’s special envoy, represented the government of at the meeting, said Sirajuddin Siraj, MoFA’s deputy spokesperson.

The participants discussed regional cooperation and the upcoming conference, the official said. The items on agenda had already been shared with the Heart-of-Asia countries, he added.

President Ashraf Ghani will visit Beijing at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart. During the visit, he said, the two countries would sign Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) on bilateral cooperation in areas of economy, security and other sectors.
