ZARANJ (Pajhwok): Police seized over 100 kilograms of heroin and arrested a driver in connection to the drug trafficking in southwestern Nimroz province, an official said Saturday.
Brig. Gen. Mohammad Qasim Jangalbagh, police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News the heroin was being kept in secret compartments in an oil tanker. The contraband, he said was being smuggled to neighboring Iran.
However, police recovered the heroin near Abrishum area close to Iran border late Wednesday. He said that driver of the vehicle had also been detained.
Nimroz province shares border with Iran and commercial goods exported and imported from Nimroz port between Iran and Afghanistan.
Smugglers use the port for trafficking drugs to Iran as a number of Iranian drivers have also arrested in connection of smuggling.
Three days ago, police seized 75 kilograms of drugs at the port and a month earlier 218 kilograms of drugs were recovered.
