WASHINGTON (Pajhwok): UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon met Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah have conferred on the progress made by the national unity government in the last one year.
“They discussed the work undertaken in the first year of the national unity government and the current situation in Afghanistan,” said a UN statement attributable to the secretary general.
During the meeting, Ban expressed appreciation for the political, economic and social reform agenda of the Afghan government, as well as the need for continued international support for Afghanistan.
“Both leaders agreed on the priority of a political solution to the conflict in Afghanistan as the only durable mechanism for peace,” the statement said.
At the meeting in New York, Ban expressed his support for an Afghan-led peace process, reaffirming the commitment of the United Nations to Afghanistan and its people.
