JALALABAD (Pajhwok): At least 33 Islamic State (IS) or — Daesh — rebels have been killed in security forces clearing operation in Pachiragam district of eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Thursday.
Police Spokesman Lt. Col. Hazrat Hussain Mashraqiwal told Pajhwok Afghan News security forces launched operations codenamed Shaheen in the district on Wednesday. Over 30 rebels were killed in ground forces attacks and airstrikes.
Attullah Khogyani, the governor’s spokesman, confirmed the killing of Daesh rebels in the offensive and said five hideouts and a machinegun were destroyed by security forces.
He added the operation was still ongoing against Daesh rebels in district and so far several places were cleared from the insurgents.
A week back, the IS militants launched attacks on Pachiragam district from several direction leaving some civilians dead and some displaced.
