TALOQAN (Pajhwok): Mohammad Yasin Zia, the governor of northern Takhar province, has resigned his position, officials said on Monday.
His spokesman Sunatullah Timori told Pajhwok Afghan News Zia had presented his resignation to the presided through the Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG).
The president had not yet approved the governor’s resignation, the spokesman said, without giving any reason for the governor’s decision.
IDLG spokeswoman, Munira Yousufzada confirmed the governor’s resignation. She said Zia had resigned due to his personal problems.
The resignation letter reached the IDLG office on Sunday before it was sent to the President Palace, she added. The president has not accepted the resignation of the governor so far.
Zia was appointed as Takhar governor about two years ago. He previously served as deputy intelligence chief.
