TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): At least 10 Taliban insurgents have been killed and another 15 wounded during airstrikes in the capital of central Uruzgan province, officials said on Monday.
A police official at the provincial police headquarters, 2nd Lt. Zainullah, told Pajhwok Afghan News in addition to foreign forces, recent airstrikes conducted by Afghan forces also had positive results.
He said about 10 Taliban had been killed and 15 others suffered injuries during air raids carried out by Afghan air forces in eastern and northern areas of Tirinkot, the provincial capital, over the past two days.
Zainullah said the wounded included a notorious Taliban commander Mullah for treatment.
According to him, a number of weapons and ammunition belonging to insurgents were destroyed during the raids.
He said security personnel had so far suffered no casualties during the ongoing offensive in Uruzgan and the Afghan forces were closing in on rebels’ hideouts, while advancing one kilometer.
There has been so far no word from insurgents in this regard.
However, a Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousuf, in a tweet claimed the fighters killed seven soldiers and destroyed three tanks about two days back in Landatweeti Kochi area of Tirinkot.
