JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Unidentified gunmen have shot dead three civilians inside a mosque while 14 other were wounded by a mortar shell in eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Thursday.
Attaullah Khogyani, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News unknown gunmen opened fire on civilians when they were offering prayers in a mosque in the Karez area of Chaparhar district on Wednesday evening.
He said two individuals were killed on the spot and a third succumbed to his serious wounds in the hospital. According to Khogyani, the victims were from the same family.
Separately, the spokesman said 14 civilians were injured as a result of a mortar shell fired by militants in the Shergarh Bazaar area of Ghanikhe district on Thursday morning.
He said women and children were among the injured, six of them in critical condition. There has been no claim of responsibility for the attacks so far.
