KABUL (Pajhwok): Balkh governor Atta Mohammad Noor on Thursday strongly condemned a suicide attack apparently targeting his supporters in Kabul.
The attack took place in Aspa Square in the Labe Jar area, where a large gathering of the Jamiat-i-Islami party had just ended and attendees were leaving the conference hall.
The political gathering was aimed to show support for Noor, a powerful figure in the north, who has criticized the unity government.
In his message about the attack, Noor alleged some elements within the government, which he called the fifth pillar, were behind such attacks.
He said the same circle in Kabul was behind the attacks on Junbish-i-Rastakhez, Junbish-i-Roshnai and on Salam Ezedyar’s funeral.
Noor said today’s gathering in Kabul had no political or military motive and neither it was aimed at plotting against the opponents.
He said elements within the government, known as the fifth pillar, were behind such attacks, but he did not name anyone.
Because these elements feared upcoming elections and were involved in such incidents, but they would never succeed, the governor said.
