PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): Residents of Dand Shahabuddin area of Pul-I-Khumri, the capital of northern Baghlan province, on Saturday asked the government to compensate them for their homes destroyed during Afghan forces airstrikes.
Dozens of residents of Dand Shahabuddin gathered in front of Baghlan provincial council building today for protest and demanded the government to compensate destruction of their houses and help them.
Gul Mohammad, one of the protestors from Bala Duri village, told Pajhwok Afghan News, “We are visiting the governor’s house every day from the last two weeks and ask the officials to help us in reconstruction of houses destroyed in airstrikes in our village, but the governor’s house does not listen to our complain,”
Haji Mohammad Karim, another protestor, who had the same complain, said that their houses were destroyed in Afghan forces airstrikes but no one so far promised them of any help.
He warned to continue protests if their voice was not listened.
A number of other people in the gathering had similar complains.
Shamsul Haq Barakzai, a provincial council member, accused the local administration on negligence and said that he told relevant officials such operation were counterproductive.
“Only civilians suffered damage in these operations, the government is responsible to help displaced people with the support of charity organizations,” he siad.
Barakzai also said that the houses of a number of people were destroyed during the operation and he had shared the issue with local officials.
Governor’s spokesman, Mahmod Haqmal, said that they would launch a survey of the destroyed houses soon.
He said that a committee was already appointed for the survey in consultation of the provincial council member, Shamsul Haq Barakzai.
“We would start our help with the people after this survey completed,” Haqmal concluded.
Two weeks back, Afghan forces launched an operation against the Taliban in Dand Shahabuddin area Pul-I-Khumri where a number of civilian houses were also destroyed in bombardments.
