HERAT/ZARANJ (Pajhwok): Police in western Herat province on Tuesday detained an Iranian national for allegedly trying to smuggle 29 kilograms of heroin in a truck to his country.
The Iranian had skillfully hidden the stuff in his truck vehicle en route to Iran via Islam Qala dry port, said Herat police spokesman Abdul Ahad Wali Zadah.
He told Pajhwok Afhgan News the smuggler was detained at the zero point of the Afghanistan-Iran border.
Elsewhere, counternarcotics police discovered an alcoholic drinks producing factory in Zaranj, the capital of Nimroz province.
Nimroz deputy police chief Col. Saleh Massoud said the factory producued wine and a man, Abdul Hadi, a resident of southern Helmand province, had been arrested in connection with the discovery.
He said Hadi was in-charge of the factory.
