KABUL (Pajhwok): Nangarhar governor Mohammad Gulab Mangal has submitted his resignation to the central government, a reliable source said Sunday.
A source at the Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG)’s media office told Pajhwok Afghan News that Mangal had submitted his resignation letter to IDLG.
He said President Ashraf Ghani would decide whether or not to accept Mangal’s resignation as the governor of the eastern province.
Earlier, a credible source at the Presidential Palace had told Pajhwok that Mangal, his deputies, provincial National Directorate of Security (NDS) chief, police chief and some other civil services and military officials would be fired in few days.
On the other hand, an official in Kabul, wishing anonymity, said Gulab Mangal would be selected as presidential nominee as member of th Meshrano Jirga, but it could not be confirmed.
The developments come as civil society activists in Nangarhar province have recently been demanding the removal of Mangal following serious security problems in the province.
