KABUL (Pajhwok): The National Procurement Commission (NPC) on Monday approved the award of contracts of Badakhshan gold, Balkhab copper mines and detailed design of the Qaisar-Balamurghab ring road project.

A statement from the Presidential Palace to Pajhwok Afghan News said that the detailed design project of the Qaisar-Balamurghab ring road’s extension to Laman area in Sar-i-Pul province on a length of 151 kilometers was reviewed and approved.

The NPC made these decisions during a meeting chaired by President Ashraf Ghani in the presence of national and international observers, budgetary and financial, and national economy commissions of the parliament, Special Inspector General for Afghanistan (SIGAR) and some other oversight institutes on Sunday evening.

The Ministry of Mines and Petroleum presented contracts of the gold mine project in Badakhshan province and Balkhab copper mine project in Sar-i-Pul province to the meeting.

The ministry said that financial obligations, guarantees and conflicts of interest had been resolved in the projects.

The NPC approved the requests of the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum in principle and suggested the interest of conflict of DLA Piper company should be reviewed by the Integrity Watch Afghanistan.

The meeting ordered the projects contracts signing process should be proceeded by the police headquarters for a short term and the Ministry of Interior (MoI) and civil society institutes should evaluate them.
