KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): Police on Thursday arrested three butchers accused of selling horse and unhygienic meat in the capital of southeastern Khost province.
Khost police chief Col. Syed Ahmad Babazai told Pajhwok Afghan News the three butchers were detained this morning and currently under investigation.
He said the detainees were involved in slaughtering horses at a secret place and selling the meat in Khost City. They were also selling the meat of dead animals, the police chief said.
He said police had seized the heads and legs of two horses at the slaughter site.
Resident Abdul Basir Mohammadzai confirmed the incident and said police also found an alive dog which the butchers wanted to slaughter.
He said the dog had been tightly tied up with a rope at the place where horses were slaughtered.
Another resident of Khost City, Islamuddin, said the detained butchers should be awarded exemplary punishment to others learnt a lesson. He said the municipality should investigate all butchers in order to prevent such incidents.
