4 provinces get road projects worth 4b afghanis

KABUL (Pajhowk): The Ministry of Transport on Wednesday signed four projects worth nearly four billion afghanis to be implemented in four provinces of the country.

Contracts of the projects were signed between Transport Minister Yama Yari and representatives of construction companies in Kabul.

At the ceremony, Yari said the projects would cost 3.78 billion afghanis and would be executed in Baghlan, Bamyan, Nangarhar and Ghor provinces.

He said one of the projects was construction of the Baghlan-Bamyan ring road, which he called as important.

The minister the ring road had been designed in six parts and could be a great alternative to the Salang Pass once implemented.

 “The first part of the Baghlan-Bamyan ring road which is located in a part of Baghlan province and the sixth section of the project which is located in Bamyan province is currently under work,” he said.

He added that contracts for construction of the second part of the road -- 30 kilometers --- and fifth part of the road -- 19.5 kilometers --- were also signed with construction companies. The two parts would cost 1.7 billion afghanis and 1.9 billion afghanis respectively.

Yari said he also signed today the contract for construction of many subways measuring nine kilometers in Jalalabad city, the capital of Nangarhar province.

Another project also signed today was regarding the construction of the second part of Bamyan-Ghor highway, which is 10 kilometers long, he said.

The fourth project signed today is construction of a 10 kilometer road between Ghor and Herat provinces, he concluded.
