KABUL’s role in the peace process.

“Women are important actors in creating inclusive peace,” the minister stressed while opening the “Dialogue between the Women of Afghanistan.”

The dialogue was held in line with Indonesia’s commitment to supporting the peace process in Afghanistan, which prioritises the role of women as agents of peace.

According to the Foreign Ministry in Jakarta, The event was attended by 38 participants representing women from various backgrounds and regions and led by Afghan Minister of Information and Culture Hasina Safi.

“We appreciate Indonesia’s sincere commitment to peace and empowerment of Afghan women. We also need to continue to work closely together to follow up on the results of today’s dialogue,” she said explained Minister Safi.

Foreign Minister Retno stressed the importance of dialogue for developing mutual trust and bridging differences between women, so all of them had equal opportunities for Afghanistan’s development.

Education and capacity-building are needed to increase women’s empowerment and must be supported by families, communities and governments through policies,” remarked the minister.

Retno hoped the Afghan Women’s Dialogue would identify future steps to create a conducive environment for women to be able to increase their role in the peace process, as well as promote tolerance and peace.

“This dialogue is not a one-off event, we will follow up on it with the cooperation of the Afghanistan-Indonesia Women’s Network”, the minister added.

For 4 days, from November 27 to 30, representatives of Afghan women took part in a series of activities on the Dialogue on the Role of Women in Building and Sustaining Peace.

The activities pertained to capacity-building programmes in the fields of maternal and child health, education and business development, as well as consultation and dialogue with the Indonesian parliament and Muslim entrepreneurs.
