KABUL have taken 26 members of the People’s Peace Movement (PPM) hostage in western Farah province.

Bismillah Watandost, spokesman for PPM, told Pajhwok Afghan News the activists were kidnapped on their way to Farah from Herat on Tuesday evening.

He said they were in contact with local Taliban commanders but there had been no information about the captives so far.

“We have met the Taliban several times and are aware of their concerns. But this is the fourth time the militants have taken away members of PPM,” he complained.

According to Watandost, the kidnapped PPM workers were part of a convoy that left Helmand province a fortnight ago before it reached Herat.

Watandost said they had not yet received any information about the fate of its abducted members. The Taliban have said nothing in this regard so far.
