Afghan-Pakistan transit trade partially resumes

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Dozens of trucks loaded with transit trade goods have entered Afghanistan via the Torkham border, officials say.

In compliance with government directives, police allowed 37 trucks stranded in various parts of Khyber district to enter Afghanistan on Friday.

Only trucks carrying transit trade goods were permitted to cross the Durand Line on Friday. The vehicles remained stranded for a month due to the coronavirus outbreak

Pakistani trucks were also unloaded at the Afghan customs house in Torkham and allowed to return home.

Those entering Pakistan would be provided with food and other necessary items, said Landikotal Assistant Commissioner Mohammad Imran.

All vehicles crossing into the neighbouring country were fumigated of to prevent possible coronavirus transmission.
