KABUL (Pajhwok): Two people have been killed and 35 others injured in a shooting at a block party in the US state of Georgia, Reuters reported on Monday.

The shooting occurred early Sunday in Vienna, Georgia, about 216 kilometres south of Atlanta, according to Dooly County Sheriff Craig Peavy.

Peavy said the two men killed were aged 21 and 23. The 35 injured people were mostly wounded by gunfire, with some in critical condition.

The event was held at the end of Dooly County High School’s homecoming week, and hundreds of people attended.

Authorities said there was no remaining threat to the public, but no suspects or persons of interest had been publicly identified and no motive had been established.

Chris Hosey, director of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, said authorities did not want to speculate about the cause of the shooting before the investigation was completed.
