KABUL on Tuesday announced operationalising the Gwadar Port in southwestern Balochistan province for Afghan transit trade under a 2010 agreement between the neighbours.
Advisor to Prime Minister on Commerce Abdul Razzak Dawood said shipments of sugar, fertilizer and wheat would be transported in sealed trucks to Afghanistan.
In a series of tweets, he wrote 16,000 metric tonnes of DAP and WFP cargo of 500,000MT of wheat for Afghanistan would arrive at the port next month.
“I am pleased to share with you the Ministry of Commerce has operationalised Gwadar Port for Afghan Transit Trade under the Afghanistan-Pakistan Transit Trade Agreement.”
