Miller to Taliban: Response if attacks continue

KABUL of a befitting response if they do not stop their attacks.

Gen. Scott Miller issued the warning during a visit to the Afghan special operation forces’ headquarters here on Tuesday.

The American general was referring to an uptick in Taliban attacks against the Afghan security forces in different parts of the country in recent weeks.

“We want them to reduce the violence and with that reduction give our political leadership on all sides the opportunity to determine the peaceful way forward,” he said.

In recent weeks, heavy clashes have occurred in 14 provinces between the government forces and the Taliban. Scores of security personnel have been killed in Taliban attacks.

Speaking on the occasion, Defence Minister Assadullah Khalid claimed the Taliban had also suffered high casualties in the recent wave of violence.

He insisted the enemy’s casualties were higher.  “We are committed to peace and have respected the reduction in violence week. However, the Taliban stepped up violence after the reduction in violence period.”
