PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): The Taliban see no possibility of negotiations with India before the beginning of intra-Afghan talks, a Pakistani newspaper reported on Monday.

Like the United States, Russia recently urged India to speak to the Taliban on the future government in Afghanistan, The News International said, citing diplomatic sources.

Moscow impressed upon New Delhi to play its role in ensuing peace parley among different Afghan factions, the newspaper added.

“A breakthrough is likely to take place on the question of intra-Afghan talks that will pave the way for enduring peace … in the war-torn country,” it said.

The venue for intra-Afghan dialogue would be chosen in a day as US Special Representative Zalmay Khalilzad has arrived in the region. The envoy will also visit Kabul.

The long-awaited intra-Afghan dialogue may take place in Doha, which hosted successful negotiations talks between the Taliban and the United States.

The Taliban, President Ashraf Ghani and Dr. Abdullah have reportedly accorded their consent to the talks, which are likely to commence next week.

Pakistan’s newly-appointed special envoy Mohammad Sadiq hoped talks would yield results sooner than expected.
