KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghan and Turkmen officials have discussed the implementation of a multi-billion gas pipeline project, says a media report.
Acting Chairman of Da Afghanistan Bank Ajmal Ahmadi and Turkmen Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov reviewed the project’s implementation at a videoconference on Wednesday.
The Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India pipeline will carry natural gas from the Galkynysh Gas Field in Turkmenistan through Afghanistan into Pakistan and India.
Construction on the project started in Turkmenistan on December 13, 2015, according to Trend News Agency. The pipeline is being developed by the Galkynysh Company Limited with participation of the Asian Development Bank.
Trend news agency reported on Thursday the two sides also underlined the imperative of further cementing Turkmen-Afghan cooperation in all fields.
Representatives of the two countries have already linked a memorandum of understanding on land acquisition for the Afghan portion of the gas pipeline project.
