KABUL (Pajhwok): The Doha Forum and Wilson Centre are set to organize a discussion on the importance of the role of women leaders at the intra-Afghani negotiating table and in peace-building in Afghanistan on December 14.
The discussion moderated by Congresswoman Jane Harman, President and CEO of The Wilson Center will feature Fatima Gailani, Member of the Negotiating Team of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, former President of the Afghan Red Crescent Society, Habiba Sarābi, Former Afghanistan Minister of Women’s Affairs and former Minister of Culture and Education and Roya Mahboob, Afghan businesswoman and entrepreneur.
The speakers will discuss the importance of the role of women leaders at the intra-Afghan negotiating table and in peace-building in Afghanistan.
The mission of these women has been, and continues to be, ensuring that women’s rights are not only safeguarded but amplified in Afghanistan- especially their right to education, to work, and to move freely. What are the challenges and opportunities for the women negotiators as these historic talks, hosted by the Qatari government in Doha, unfold? And how can women’s groups in Afghanistan, the United States and the MENA region help support their efforts to ensure women’s rights are honored in Afghanistan’s peace process and beyond?
