KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Mark Milley have voiced their concerns over the uptick in violence in Afghanistan.
The Presidential Palace said the two sides discussed the ongoing Afghan peace process and the immediate need for a ceasefire in the country.
In a series of tweets, Ghani’s office said Gen. Milley assured Ghani the United States would continue to support the Afghan defense and security forces.
A fortnight back, Milley had said the US was in the process of withdrawing 2,000 American troops from Afghanistan.
“We’re in the process of executing [the drawdown. That’s happening as we speak,” he told participants of an event at Brookings Institution.
