KABUL (Pajhwok): The Cabinet has approved a revised version of the national budget for fiscal year 2021, showing a 20 billion afghanis increase in the total outlay from 425.641 billion afs to 473.040 billion afs, a statement from the Presidential Palace said on Monday.
Presenting the changed version of the draft budget to the Cabinet, the finance minister said last year 12 percent of the general budget was saved while 84 percent of development budget was spent despite challenges posed by coronavirus.
Finance ministry secretary said there was need to reconsider the draft budget for 2021 after finding some requirements which had not been anticipated before.
In view of these requirements, he said, some changes were brought to the draft budget, which required re-approval from the Cabinet.
By adding 20.400 billion afs, the national budget increased from 452.641 billion afs to 473.040 billion afs, with 311.199 billion afs going to general budget and 161.842 billion afs to development activities. The deficit would be supported through borrowing and reserved resources.
After discussion, the Cabinet approved the revised version of the draft budget and the Ministry of Finance was tasked with completing other phases of the budget with the parliament.
