KABUL (Pajhwok): The gunmen responsible for shooting down an army helicopter in central Maidan Wardak province would be brought to justice, the first vice-president vowed on Monday.
"They will be punished," Amrullah Saleh wrote on his Facebook page, denouncing last week’s incident in Behsud district as a heinous crime.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) claims having adequate evidence of the ANA helicopter being shot down by a laser-guided missile.
The ministry has accused gunmen loyal to a local strongman named Alipoor of shooting down the helicopter that was flying members of the police special force to Kabul.
The VP explained no military operation was planned in Behsud. He said giving the incident an ethnic twist would be a mistake.
