KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Public Works (MoPW) has dismissed 168 employees over corruption charges after complaints from transport unions, common people and highways drivers.
Public Works Minister NajeebullahYameen on his Facebook page wrote that a delegation was tasked to investigate complaints and finally it was decided to dismiss some employees.
Without providing details, he said some employees were removed because of changes in the orgnisational structure and negligence in duties and responsibilities.
Referring to the individuals accused of corruption, Yameen said: “Besides being involved in receiving bribe, the accused officials also caused damage to roads by allowing vehicles carrying load beyond standard weight.”
He said through a transparent manner the corrupt officials would be replaced with committed and qualified persons.
Public Works Ministry Spokesperson KhalilurrahmanOmaid confirmed the removal of 168 employees while Minister Yameen had earlier said they were 50.
