E-ID card center employee gunned down in Balkh

MAZAR-SHARIF (Pajhwok): An employee of the electronic Identity Card distribution center has been killed in Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of northern Balkh province, police said on Thursday.

The incident took place in the 10th district of Mazar-i-Sharif last night , said police spokesman Adil Shah

He told Pajhwok Afghan News that two gunmen entered the house of Ahmad Zia in the dark of night and gunned him down.

Adil said two female members of the victim’s family were also injured in the incident.

The police spokesman added it was not yet clear whether the incident was criminal or terroristic.

He said the attackers had fled the area and police had launched an investigation into the case.

Bashir Mohammad, head of the statistics and information department said, that a biometric branch employee of the second electronic ID card distribution center had been killed.

A guard at a security check-post at Balkh University was killed in a similar attack on Wednesday.
