KABUL (Pajhwok): Borders and Tribal Affairs Minister Mohibullah Samim said some people had conveyed him their concerns about the establishment of private militias in some areas.

During an exclusive interview with Pajhwok Afghan News, Samim said: “We hear that under different titles, an anti-government movement has started to develop in some parts of the country.”

He did not disclose names of the areas where anti-government private militias were being formed, but reports in this regard started to come from Takhar, Daikundi and Baghlan provinces.

He said the most important thing was that professional and acceptable armed forces existed in the country and every military development should take place under their supervision.

If illegal armed groups were created, Samim warned, they would not show adherence to the system and law and this will cause fear and unrest among the masses.

“If this happens, this will pave the way for the Taliban’s comeback. But no Afghan is interested in Taliban’s return to power. People are not supporting the creation of illegal militias that serve the interest of anti-state elements,” he continued.

Samim added security forces were fully capable of protecting Afghanistan’s territory and ensuring stability.

“I want to call on people to stand by the security forces and support them. Send your children to security institutions to serve the country and ensure greater security and stability in the country,” the minister remarked.

According to Samim, his ministry is working in three main areas --- political, social and cultural. Tangible efforts are underway in these areas to ensure the government’s message is conveyed to the masses.

Samim said he visited many provinces and met different tribes. The trips resulted in strengthening unity among the tribes. This also helped win public support for the government and security forces. Dozens of meetings in this regard are taking place on a daily basis.
