MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): The provincial council head for northern Balkh province has said that the retreat of Afghan security forces from districts and leaving them to the Taliban is a matter of concern.

Mohammad AfzalHadid, the provincial council head, in an exclusive interview with Pajhwok Afghan News said that residents of urban areas in the north of the country would also suffer heavily from insecurity if no urgent attention was paid to the on-going situation.

So far seven districts of Balkh alone have fallen to the Taliban’s control in the last 10 days. “If the situation continues, people should wait for worst days,” he said.

The country’s security sector should work for changing the situation to positive, Hadid said, adding that collapse of districts would affect the morale of Afghan forces.

Hadid said that the government should provide explanation to the public about the on-going situation.

“There are speculations about hidden political deals about the ongoing situation, if there is something like that, the government should give explanation to the public about it, the loss of people should stop,” he added.

He said that withdrawal of foreign forces form Afghanistan and delayed equipment supply to Afghan forces was the reason behind intensified violence.

International forces have failed to train Afghans with high capacity, which is another reason of deteriorated security situation, he believed.

Hadid said that if the government thinks it would secure provincial capitals by withdrawing troops from districts, then it was in a mistake.

“The government apparently is withdrawing security forces from districts to secure provincial capitals, if there is something like that it is not a good way and will have consequences,” he added.

He worried that people of urban areas in the north of the country would face with serious insecurity if the government failed to take timely action.

Recent security incidents have affected the economic situation of people and many people were trying to move their capital abroad, he added.

“Besides other problems, the ongoing situation has also damaged people’s economic situation, some factories have already been closed, investors are taking their capital out of the country, people are trying to leave Afghanistan…,” he said.

Hadid said that the government should simplify the procedure, based on which people could stand with Afghan forces.

If needed, people are ready to defend their lives and properties with their blood, he added.
