Noor elected National Mobilization Military Council chairman

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Former governor of northern Balkh province and Jamiat-i-Islami Afghanistan key leader Atta Mohammad Noor has been elected as chairman of the National Mobilization Military Council.

Noor wrote on his Facebook page that in order to assess the security situation in Balkh province and take important decisions, a meeting was held with the participation of province’s representatives in the National Assembly and Provincial Council.

The meeting was attended by members of political parties and officials including Wahdat-i-Islami, Azad Harakat Party, Wahdat-e-Islami New Afghanistan Party, Alliance of Hezb-e-Islami Councils and representatives of Harakat-e-Islami, Iqtidar-e-Milli, Joint Islamic Consultative Council and Jamiat-e-Islami party.

Noor, who was unanimously elected as the chairman of the council, said the participants of the meeting pledged their readiness to defend the city of Mazar-i-Sharif and recapture the lost areas.

According to the decision of the meeting, a committee consisting of representatives of the National Assembly and political parties was appointed to continuously monitor the battle lines and the programs planned by the National Mobilization Military Council.

The development comes a day after a mortar shell hit Atta Mohammad Noor’s house, injuring several of his bodyguards.
