TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): The governor of central Uruzgan province has called on security forces not to leave areas to militants without resistance and defend their people and the country until last breath.
Mohammad Omar Sherzad, addressing a joint press conference with security officials, said the Taliban had not captured any area or districts of the province but security forces surrendered or retreated without putting up any resistance and provided them advancement opportunity
The governor believed the Taliban could not gain control of an area if security and defence forces resisted them.
He said: “We in Uruzgan have enough Afghan forces and will allow no one to disrupt the security situation of the province.”
The newly-appointed police chief for Uruzgan, Khattab Khanjari, said their priority was groups that worked for the Taliban and spread propaganda.
Khanjari said he would never show mercy to such people if he identified them in the rank of police or in government-controlled areas who worked and propagated for the Taliban.
The top provincial officials made these comments after Taliban militants captured five districts of the province without facing any resistance.
