CHARIKAR (Pajhwok): A security official on Monday said 17 Afghan soldiers suffered casualties while three Taliban militants killed during a clash in Charikar, capital of central Parwan province.
Parwan police chief, on the other hand, rejected Afghan forces’ casualties and claimed inflicting casualties to 24 Taliban fighters in the battle.
A security official who wished to go unnamed, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the Taliban stormed a number of security posts in Hofyan area on the outskirts of Charikar city, from Shinwari district around 2am Sunday night.
The official said that the fight continued until 6am today morning and the Taliban retreated from the area.
Six Afghan National Army soldiers, two upraising force members, a policeman and three Taliban militants were killed and four ANA soldiers and as many upraising force members wounded in the clash, the source said.
He said that the Taliban casualties were probably higher but he was aware about three Taliban fighters killed.
However, Brig. Gen. Abdul Raouf Uruzgani, Parwan police chief rejected casualties of Afghan forces and said that 12 Taliban fighters including three of the group’s commanders killed and 12 others wounded in the battle.
On the other hand, Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed the loss of two of the group’s fighters but claimed that they captured a number of security posts in Hofyan area of Charikar city and caused casualties to 19 Afghan forces including a commander.
He said that they also seized some weapons and ammunition from Afghan security forces.
