MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Eighty security personnel have been freed under the Taliban general amnesty announcement in northwestern Faryab province, an official said on Sunday.
Taliban’s Faryab Governor MaulaviAttaullahUmari said the released security personnel were police, army personnel and members of the quick response force.
They had been arrested during firefights and languished in the Taliban jail for up to five years.
“These prisoners are our brothers but they were deceived by the enemy and fought against the Taliban but the Taliban leadership has offered general amnesty to everyone who worked in the previous regime.”
He said the Taliban could forgive individuals who fought against the Taliban but people involved in crimes such as murder and other crimes against humanity could not be forgiven because the Taliban could not forgive crime against humanity.
