KABUL (Pajhwok): The humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan is a critical issue and the Afghans need help from the entire world, says a UN official.
UN General Assembly President Abdulla Shahid said in an interview the humanitarian problem in Afghanistan was acute.
“I would call on everyone to assist the Afghan people in dealing with the humanitarian crisis,” he told Russia’s TASS news agency.
He believed priority should be given to the welfare of women and children. “It is important that we give the Afghan people the right to decide their future and move forward…?
Afghanistan has been in an extremely challenging economic situation after the Taliban gained power in mid-August.
With the world yet to recognise the Taliban government, Afghanistan’s foreign exchange reserves in Western banks have been frozen.
