Families of war victims in Bamyan ask for improved security

BAMYAN (Pajhwok): A number of families of victims of deadly explosions in Bamyan province on Thursday during a commemoration ceremony of their beloved ones have called on the government to ensure their security and improve the country's economy.

In November last year, 20 people were killed and 60 others were injured in twin explosions in the capital of Bamyan province.

Jawhar, 55, who lives in Sumarah village on the outskirts of Bamyan city, the provincial capital, is one of the mothers who lost her two young sons in the incident.

"Today is the anniversary of the martyrdom of Muhammad and Nowruz, we organized holy Quran recitation for their souls today,” she said.

When asked about her life after the death of her sons, she cried and said that it was an unhappy year for her as she had already lost her husband due to an illness.

She said that during the last one year, she was not without pain for a single day and even got mental issues.

Jawhar now lives with her two young children and suffers from poverty.

The suffering mother called on the government to ensure people’s security and eradicate poverty in the country; saying the people of Afghanistan could no longer bear further conflicts and economic problems.

She also asked international aid organizations for their assistance to the poverty and war affected Afghans.

Ahmad Zia, a relative of Jawhar, says that the mother faced serious poverty since the last one year when she lost her two sons and she was currently in dire need of assistance.

Marziah, a mother of five children, also says that she lost her 37-year-old husband, Nowruz Ali, in the explosions last year.

She said that Nowruz Ali, her husband, had a mobile phone shop in Bamyan city and died in a second explosion while returning to his home.

"I could not believe that my husband was martyred until I saw his body, but my husband's body was turned into pieces by the explosion, I was not allowed to see his face at the last moment," she added.

She says that she spent a year with pains and grieves due to absence of her husband.

After the death of her husband, Marziah shifted her house to Kabul with her mother-in-law and currently live in a rental house.

She said that she was unable to provide the rent of the house and earn food for her children.

Marziah called on aid agencies to provide immediate humanitarian assistance and called on the government to curb insecurity.

Officials emphasize that they will make every effort to ensure the security of people and will not allow Afghanistan to again fall to conflicts.

Zabihullah Mujahid said today during a gathering of Shia people in Kabul that hundreds of young people had been killed every day for the past 20 years and Afghanistan's economy relied on international aid.

He says the government is working to resolve economic problems and ensure the full security of people.
